Lode Runner Review
Gameplay
Players control a stick that must collect all the gold in the level while avoiding the guards who tried to catch the players. After collecting all the gold, the player must travel to the top of the screen to reach the next level. There are 150 levels in the game a more challenging problem-solving players' ability or reaction time.
Levels feature story, brick motif platforms, with stairs and hand to hand suspended bar that offers several ways to travel across. The player can dig holes into floors to temporarily trap the guards and can safely walk on guard trapped. Should the guards would bring a bar of gold when he fell into a hole that will be abandoned, and may be taken by the player. Over time, dig into the ground will regenerate, filling this hole. A guard is stuck can not escape the hole before filling consumed, immediately respawning at random locations at the top level. Unlike the guards, the player character may not climb out of the hole, and would be killed if the fill before he can escape by other means. The floor may also contain a trap, in which players and guards will fall, and bedrock, where the player can not dig.
Especially, the player can only dig a hole to the side, and not directly under its own. This introduces an important strategy: when digging the hole a high X block, players must first dig a wide gap in X at least to be able to dig through it, because the amount of space will shrink with each layer, and the player needs at least one free contiguous space to be able to dig . However, exceptions to this rule arises when the players to dig from a standing position on the ladder, or hanging from the bar hand to hand, allowing the player to repeatedly dig up and down one line. This kind of digging is involved in solving many levels.
The player starts with five lives, each level of settlement awards an extra life. Should a player caught keeper, one life lost and restart the current level. The player character can fall from a height of arbitrary without injury, but could not jump, and players can trap themselves in the holes from which escape is only to cancel the rate, cost of living, and start again.
Enemies
The guards are not only home to the players to always take the shortest path, but also moving in ways that seem counter-intuitive in accordance with an algorithm that strange. This is a key factor in the game logic, especially at the advanced level, which exploit the behavior of guards is essential to achieving a solution. Sometimes when players and guards are in the same ladder, for example, the guard will move away from the player. In general, depending on the exact position relative to Lode Runner, a guard is sometimes appears to be rejected. The behavior is far from random, however. Most of mastering the game involve developing intuition to predict the movement of the guards.
